Française des Jeux× Devoteam
From designer to owner of the mobile app’s design system. I rebuilt the Figma library, automated the variants and shipped light & dark modes.
The mobile games app of Française des Jeux (FDJ) relied on a scattered Figma library. Variants were redone by hand, screen by screen. No rule linked colours, spacing and text. Under those conditions, adding a dark mode was impossible.
Understanding and improving the app’s journeys before touching the design system.
I didn’t work on the design system in isolation. Alongside it, I designed and improved the app’s journeys. I reviewed every screen and spotted the sticking points that kept coming back. Then I fixed them, with the product team and developers.
This knowledge of the product was the basis of the whole rebuild. You can’t create good tokens for a product you don’t understand.
I became the owner by showing what it brought, not by asking for a title.
I first contributed as a designer. Then I became the single contact for every question about the app’s design system. My role: keep the style consistent, equip designers and developers to work together, check the quality of components.
A team that finally knows who to talk to when a component needs to change.
No more components without an owner, no more differences piling up unnoticed. The design system became a team tool, not a file people open reluctantly.
I rebuilt the whole library: automatic variants, tokens, light & dark.
Each component existed in as many copies as there were states, sizes and themes. Everything was updated by hand. Adding a colour meant editing dozens of files.
- 01Automatic variants thanks to Figma variables
- 02Colour, size, typography and radius tokens
- 03Switching from light to dark in a single mode change
- 04Components rebuilt with slots
- 05Documentation written with developers
100% of variants are automatic. A single library replaces the parallel copies. New screens are designed 3 times faster.
A design system isn’t held together by Figma files alone.
It holds thanks to the dialogue between the designers who build it, the developers who code it and the product managers who set the priorities. Designers and developers did a joint review of each component before release. A weekly meeting brought together the technical and product leads. Documentation was shared between Figma and code.
The result: components reached the code with no nasty surprises, and fewer fixes after release.
17 months, light & dark modes live and screens designed 3 times faster.
Let’s work together.
Best fit: a Lead Design System role, permanent and remote. Or a targeted freelance mission: auditing what exists, setting up and supporting teams, organising design work.
